Equivalent income versus equivalent lifetime: does the metric matter?

چکیده

Abstract We examine the effects of postulated metric on measurement well-being, by comparing, in (income, lifetime) space, two indexes: equivalent income index and lifetime index. The conditions under which exists are more restrictive than ones exists, but it is possible to define an alternative index, based reference levels, for non-existence problem less acute. Those indexes also shown satisfy different properties concerning interpersonal well-being comparisons, can lead contradictory rankings. While those incompatibilities arise distinct indifference maps, we explore while relying a unique map, show that, even that case, matters well-being.

Equivalent Contractive Conditions in Metric Spaces ∗

In this note, we introduce some contractive conditions which complete the corresponding contractive conditions appeared in references [1]-[11]. By these conditions, we prove that twenty-two contractive conditions are equivalent. Then we use these conditions to get some common fixed point theorems for noncompatible maps and some weakly compatible mappings. There are a number of papers dealing wi...

Measuring Income Mobility over Equivalent Adults

The amount of flexibility in the ”earnings market” has attracted the interest of many researchers during the last two decades. Given a heterogeneous population, it has been shown that results strongly depends on equivalence scales and related initial definitions. In this paper we argue that in order to rank income distributions over income mobility there are strong theoretical and empirical rea...

Möbius Invariant Metrics Bilipschitz Equivalent to the Hyperbolic Metric

We study three Möbius invariant metrics, and three affine invariant analogs, all of which are bilipschitz equivalent to the Poincaré hyperbolic metric. We exhibit numerous illustrative examples.

Equivalent income and the economic evaluation of health care

We argue that the economic evaluation of health care (cost-benefit analysis) should respect individual preferences and should incorporate distributional considerations. Relying on individual preferences does not imply subjective welfarism. We propose a particular non-welfarist approach, based on the concept of equivalent income, and show how it helps to define distributional weights. We illustr...
